When 8 out of 10 businesses go under in the first five years and less than 1% of the world’s business owners enjoy millionaire status, there’s evidently a significant piece of the jigsaw missing.
That piece is called an education. I don’t mean an academic education, I mean an education in how to live successfully in business and in our personal lives.
Think about it.
In what other walk of life are people so poorly equipped to succeed?
Athletes work the science of nutrition and exercise for months, even years, ahead of whatever challenge they’re to meet, actors and musicians rehearse for hundreds of hours for just a relatively short period of time performing to an audience and in the vast majority of employed roles, people are given initial and continuous technical training on how to do the job proficiently.
And what does the typical business owner get?
The overwhelming majority of business owners go into business as blind as Mr. Magoo and spend the rest of their career fumbling around trying to get the sort of traction that makes choosing the entrepreneurial road worthwhile.
The truth is, most business owners have a job even though on paper they run their own business. Despite an enormous amount of courage, effort and hard work, the freedom of the entrepreneurial dream forever alludes them.
The statistics prove it.
And there’s only one reason for it.
You don’t know what you don’t know. And if your results, in ANY aspect of your life, are not what you want them to be, I’ve got news for you – you’re ignorant. What you’re experiencing by your results is the expression of your ignorance in any given area of your life.
A powerful teacher spoke into this irrefutable truth many years ago when he said “by their fruits you shall know them”.
Oh and just in case you think I’m busting your chops alone, we’re all ignorant. We just don’t know some things. I’m certainly not immune to ignorance myself, in fact, I’m ignorant in a lot of areas.
Here’s a word of advice. If you EVER see me promoting a programme, course or seminar on how to master the art of DIY, keep your money and stay well away because DIY in my home stands for destroy it yourself.
Seriously, I can hang a picture and bring down a wall.
But I DO know my onions when it comes to what it takes to live a successful life. My “fruits” prove it. And the only reason I got this way is because I got educated in the Science of Success.
I didn’t find it at school. The only science I was subjected to there was biology, physics and chemistry.
I didn’t find it in the curriculum of any business school or formal adult education process either. It wasn’t to be found in ANY of the learning modules in my Diploma in Business Management and I certainly wasn’t exposed to it via government funded small business “training” initiatives or places like the Chamber of Commerce.
No, I had to go all over the world to find the best teachers and brightest minds who not only preached the Science of Success but, as evidence by their results, lived it.
My life was never the same again. Sure, I still faced some very difficult situations from time to time but when I did, I was able to navigate my way through them successfully because I had a level of understanding most people don’t.
None of this makes me “better” than anyone else, it just makes me better equipped.
Sometimes I see people smile, almost mockingly, when they see my entrepreneurial success courses and events are called the “Science of Success”.
You see, most people, and I do mean most people, think “science” is confined to laboratories and bunsen burners and while they can accept there’s a science to biology, chemistry or physics, they appear to struggle with the idea that there’s a definitive science to success.
Odd isn’t it? Take a look around and you’ll find millions of people who believe success is a matter of “luck”, being born into wealth, having a first rate education, or being in the “right” place at the “right” time.
And still they wonder why success alludes them.
The word science means “organised knowledge” and in terms of what it takes to enjoy greater success in business, personal relationships, health and wellbeing and finance, most people are woefully uneducated and appallingly ill-equipped.
Unless your results are what you’d like them to be, I can categorically guarantee you are too.
It’s so easy and oh-so-common to take the path of least resistance and be comfortable generating inferior results in your life.
