Are You Driving With The Brakes On?

Posted · Add Comment

I’m not much of a car man.  Don’t misunderstand me, I like a decent motor but I’ve no desire to drive a top of the range, sexy Merc or BMW.  It’s just not my thing anymore.

But, because I’m just wired in a weird way, brake pads and headlight issues on my car got me thinking about how most business owners go about business.

They drive with the brakes on.

And they’re half blind when they do.

Here’s what I mean.

Most people work hard.  Most people who struggle day in day out work hard.  It always brings a wry smile to my face when I read or hear someone say success is the result of hard work.

It isn’t.

Hard work is a component of success for sure – it’s a given, but if hard work alone was the case of the effect we know to be success, the 99.9% of business owners who fail to enjoy the financial and lifestyle freedom promised by the entrepreneurial dream would all be living it.

And they’re not.

No, most business owners drive with the brakes on.  They have two feet firmly planted on both pedals.  While intellectually, consciously aspiring to accelerate to greater results, they emotionally and unconsciously put the brakes on at the same time…and they don’t even know they’re doing it.

Here’s where the rubber meets the road.

It matters not what the conscious mind aspires to if the incumbent, unconscious belief system is invested in maintaining the status quo.

We all have our success snipers.  And we’re all blind to them.

We only see the half of it.

And the half we do see is not the half calling the shots.

That’s why smart people, and by “smart” I mean people who understand the quality of their thinking determines the quality of results in their personal and professional lives, deliberately and continuously put themselves in environments conducive to exponential growth.

They leverage skilled expertise and a carefully chosen network of like-minded, aspiring entrepreneurial achievers to lift them up to an entirely different level…so they’re no longer driving half blind with the brakes on.

Such environments are extremely rare.

Which is why my Entrepreneurial Mastery Inner Circle (a phenomenal community of growth-orientated, success-focused business owners) was conceived in the first place.

We all have choices.  You can keep driving half blind with the brakes on, following the same road as every other Tom, Dick and Harry who’s struggling or wallowing in self-imposed mediocrity, or you can choose the road less travelled, the one leading to success.

It’s up to you.
